ALGC BULLETINS
Updated October 23, 2011
The fourth quarter meeting of the Executive Committee will be at the club on Monday,
November 14. The Committee will discuss programs and projects for
the coming year, as well as safety concerns,
changes, and improvements. New member orientations were held
after the Fall work day, and another is scheduled for
Oct. 29. Several openings became available after September 1, due to many
non-renewals and a few upgrades to Life membership. Our membership will
remain full at the 275 members after applicants are brought in from the waiting
list, and the list still has a large number of people wanting in. The
next meeting will be the annual planning meeting for the Executive Committee in
January 2012.
Clay birds are now available for purchase at the club for
$11 a box. The birds are stored in the three houses and the honor-system payment
box is on the table in the clubhouse. This is a trial run to see if it works
out. If successful, a variety of paper targets may also be stocked at the
club for purchase the same way.
Long-sleeved ALGC tee-shirts are now
available. Contact any club officer while at the club for purchase. Price
is $15 for the navy blue shirts with white logo on the back. All
remaining short-sleeved shirts are on sale for $10 for a limited time.
All black Abe Lincoln window stickers are now an option at the club
from any officer. These are from an old batch that does not have a white background
like the red one. Because the background is clear they can be hard to see on some vehicle windows. Stickers
are free to any club member. Samples of each are displayed on the window
of the clubhouse.
The indoor range hours have changed. The
new hours are 7AM to 10PM, seven days a week . New signs are
posted. Also, the indoor range entry light switch has been relocated from
overhead to just outside of the range door.
There is a small 7 yard pistol area outdoors. Lanes #1 and #2 have been
set up with plug-ins for shorter portable target frames and the bench has been
raised to restrict the angle of shots fired from the firing line. The new
7 yard frames are wider spaced and will only fit in the 7 yard sockets.
The 25 1/2 “x 15” cardboard backers will fit on either type frame. Frames
and backers will be maintained by the club maintenance volunteers. Spare
frames are always available in the maintenance shed behind the indoor range
backstop, and cardboard can be cut from the supply in the indoor
range. Please follow the restrictions posted: No oversized
cardboard on the frames. No cross-lane shooting. All shots fired
must impact the dirt berm down range.
The club telephone line was repaired and there is a new phone
installed. The old coin-operated phone has been removed and a new corded
phone and answering machine has been installed at the jack in the indoor
range. There is also one remote cordless handset for the clubhouse on the
table. The club phone number is the same but our service plan has been
changed. All long distance calls are blocked and only a limited number of
local calls can be made. We also now have caller ID.
First Aid and Trauma kits are hanging in the
clubhouse. Take some time to familiarize yourself with their location and
contents before an injury occurs. Please keep the kits orderly and report
any use of the trauma kit to a club officer as soon as possible. Kits are
inspected monthly. The top bag has the minor issue Band Aids , wipes, and tweezers. The metal box has
eye-wash, cold packs, gauze, aspirin and non-aspirin tablets, etc. NOTE:
The lower “Trauma” bag is stocked for response to serious, life-threatening
injury. Always call 911 first for any serious injury or illness. If a firearm is involved in
an injury, please try to remember not to report
it as “a shooting” to the 911 operator. We want an ambulance to
respond, not the SWAT team! Phrase it as an accident with severe bleeding
to assure a prompt medical response.
All forty-five lockers on site are assigned. If anyone does not need
theirs, please contact Steve Rowoldt, who maintains a
locker waiting list. Call or email to get on the list or to give up your
locker. Remember, no firearms or ammunition may be stored overnight at
the club.
Remember, any time the “Range Closed” sign
is out for mowing, maintenance or construction, members are
not allowed to shoot on the affected ranges. Make contact with the
working folks and coordinate any safe areas to open.
